Spring brings a fresh wave of life to gardens and fields, and for beekeepers, it means the arrival of new honey. Harvesting spring honey is a rewarding experience, but the real joy comes from turning that golden nectar into delightful treats.
Our new labels have arrived. We felt that making these obviously different to last years spring honey was the right thing to do given the taste and texture this year is really not the same, as our previous blog post has highlighted.
Action!
Saturday spent labelling all the jars whilst the midday sun beat down outside, too hot to do anything else and far to hot to get our bee kit on and go and inspect the bees! All hands on deck for one of the more therapeutic jobs to be done in the life of a beekeeper.
Creative Ways to Use Spring Honey in Your Kitchen
Spring honey has a delicate floral flavour that pairs well with many dishes. Here are some ideas to transform your harvest into delicious treats:
Sweeten Your Breakfast
Drizzle honey over oatmeal or yogurt for a natural sweetness.
Mix honey into pancake or waffle batter for a subtle floral note.
Spread honey on toast with butter or cream cheese for a simple, tasty snack.
Bake with Honey
Honey adds moisture and flavour to baked goods. Try these recipes:
Honey Almond Muffins: Replace sugar with honey for a moist texture and nutty taste.
Honey-Glazed Carrots: Roast carrots with a honey glaze for a sweet side dish.
Honey Cake: A classic treat that highlights the honey’s flavour.
Make Homemade Honey Treats
Honey Butter: Blend softened butter with honey for a spread that’s perfect on warm bread.
Honey Lemonade: Mix honey with fresh lemon juice and water for a refreshing drink.
Honey Granola: Combine oats, nuts, and honey, then bake for a crunchy snack.
Final Thoughts on Enjoying Spring Honey
Turning your spring honey harvest into delicious treats is a satisfying way to celebrate the season. From simple drizzles on breakfast to baking and homemade snacks, honey’s versatility shines. By properly preparing, storing, and using your honey, you preserve its natural goodness and enjoy the fruits of your beekeeping efforts long after the spring bloom fades.
